Amador Montes - Oaxaca, Mexico, 1975.

amador montes mini

The creations of Amador Montes take root in the hybrid and mestizo imaginary that to a large extent characterizes Oaxacan contemporary visual arts. It overflows with images taken from myths, legends and customs from an Indian world whose ancestral force remains alive. The natural and the animal worlds have been present in Amador’s paintings in the shape of images permeated with playfulness.

Montes has exhibited in many venues both in Mexico and abroad, among them Galería Casa Lamm, Galería Oscar Román, Bismarck Studios in San Antonio, Texas, Korea Press Center in Seul, South Korea, and Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in Madrid, Spain.

His works form part of several private collections in Mexico and abroad, such as the Colección de la Galería de la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) in Puebla, Mexico, the International Museum of Art and Science in McAllen, Texas, and the Colección de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público in Mexico City.
