Bacaanda is an initiative that brings together artists from diverse disciplines with a view to promoting the exchange of ideas, the pooling of efforts and the promotion of contemporary art and culture throughout the state of Oaxaca, particularly in the Isthmus region.
Founded by the visual artist Cristian Pineda Flores, this independent non-profit project has artistic, social and cultural overtures. Activities include a residency program for artists, the development of personal, collective and graphic arts projects, multi-disciplinary workshops for the local community, exhibitions and conferences on contemporary art and migration.
In 2011, Bacaanda received a National Endowment for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) grant for the Promotion of Cultural Projects and Joint Ventures. It is also an active member of the committee for the Book/Directory of Creators and Cultural Promoters of Juchitán, a collective project funded by a PRODICI grant from the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CONACULTA).
