Acknowledging the strength of the centenary forces behind him, Demián Flores makes use of a contemporary language embedded in old expressive techniques to describe things that happen between the wakefulness of his imagination and an altered relationship with reality. That is why we find in his works the agave-man who is partly earth and partly plant. He is the man willing to be sliced in order to become a drink, an elixir.

Santiago Espinosa de los Monteros

The agave plant has such importance in Flores’ iconographic discourse that it invites several readings, but above all it shows us a liberating door leading to a return to our origins without loosing perspective of what is to come: a return to Mexican-ness that liberates us from our self-imposed yokes. A road to freedom through mescal country.
